Brunei expanded its engagement with Borneo’s dynamic economic landscape at the Borneo Economic Forum held recently in Banjarmasin, Indonesia.
The forum underscored the region’s vast potential for economic growth and connectivity, highlighting investment opportunities in key sectors such as the green economy, tourism, and renewable energy.
Discussions in the forum also focused on enhancing Borneo’s logistics and digital infrastructure, emphasising the critical role of advanced technologies in driving regional integration within the ASEAN
Economic Community.
In her welcoming speech, Chief Executive Officer of Dynamik Technologies and Co-Chair of the Borneo Economic Community Haslina Taib articulated Brunei’s unwavering commitment to inclusive economic development.
“In this fast-moving world, our vision for the Brunei Economic Community (BEC) is clear and steadfast – to prioritize the inclusion of our people and MSMEs in new economic opportunities in cross-border trade, investments, future work, and sustainability. The establishment of Nusantara as Indonesia’s new capital is both a call and a catalyst to increase trade cooperation, drive innovation, and build sustainable development for all in Borneo,” she said.
In alignment with these goals, Haslina introduced two key Brunei Economic Community (BEC) initiatives—Karyawan Digital Borneo (KARYADI) and Trade and Economics Unified Analytics (TENUN) by Dynamik Technologies.
TENUN aims to foster regional collaboration by facilitating the sharing of trade and economic data across Borneo, attracting global investment, and connecting centres of excellence in data science.
KARYADI, on the other hand, is poised to empower Borneo’s businesses and digital talents with cutting-edge skills in low-code solutions, data analytics, and sustainability technologies, enhancing Borneo’s competitive edge in the global digital economy.
Opportunities for collaboration include joint Borneo programmes in manpower development and export, economic data collaborations to attract digital nomads, foreign direct investment (FDI), and multinational corporations (MNCs), as well as complementary projects in sustainability, tourism, and connectivity.
The Borneo Business Roundtable, scheduled to be hosted by Brunei Darussalam in October 2024, will further advance these discussions and partnerships, marking a significant step in our collective journey toward regional growth and development.
