Brunei’s youth leaders Goh Chai Li and Siti Mariam Ismail made significant strides recently at the 2024 World Youth Development Forum (WYDF) in Beijing and the China-ASEAN Youth Campus in Nanning, China.
With the theme “Together for a Better Future,” this year’s forum gathered over 2,000 youth representatives from more than 130 countries and regions, alongside 20 international organisations, tackling urgent global issues and advancing the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Organised by the All-China Youth Federation, the United Nations in China, and the World Youth Development Forum Committee, the WYDF featured a comprehensive programme that included plenary sessions, thematic forums, and interactive dialogues.
The event underscored the crucial role of youth in driving progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and provided a platform for sharing innovative solutions and best practices.
A key highlight of the forum was the Green Development segment, which our delegates participated in and held at the China-ASEAN Youth Development Forum in Nanning.
Carrying the theme “Green Technological Innovation,” the session brought together approximately 150 participants, including youth from international organisations, green development officials, and project representatives, exploring the role of green technology in sustainable development.
Discussions at the Green Development Forum focused on practical applications of green technology, the contributions of young people to environmental sustainability, and effective practices in green public welfare.
Hu Sheng, the head of the All-China Youth Federation, shared China’s progress in fostering a harmonious relationship between humans and nature, highlighting contributions made by Chinese youth in green initiatives.
At the WYDF, Goh Chai Li, the founder of Mavensdotlive, and Siti Mariam Ismail, the head of research and youth development at Pembela Association, actively engaged in productive conversations with global peers. They contributed insights on sustainability, participated in thematic forums, and explored collaborative opportunities to enhance green development and regional cooperation.
The knowledge and valuable connections gained by Chai Li and Mariam will significantly bolster Brunei’s initiatives in promoting green development and empowering its youth. Their participation underscores Brunei’s commitment to global youth engagement and collaborative efforts in addressing shared challenges.
