Brunei, Malaysia ink Exchange of Letters, MoUs

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held a meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday for the 25th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.

His Majesty the Sultan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation further, especially the progress on the implementation of the Exchange of Letters, an agreement signed between both countries in 2009. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual interest with both countries.

The monarch and the Malaysian Premier also witnessed the signing of the Exchange of Notes and Memoranda of Understanding between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia.

The Exchange of Notes at the Ministerial-level to make joint progress in Sector F – G was signed between the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan Pehin and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohammad.

Meanwhile, Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of Malaysia on Phase One of the Joint Demarcation and Survey of the Land Boundary between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia for Sector D – E, Specific Sections in Sector C – D, Sector E – F, Sector K – L and Part of Sector J – K in the Vicinity of Jambatan Persahabatan and Block B in the Vicinity of Brunei Bay was signed by Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan and Malaysia Secretary General at the Ministry of Foreign Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, in their capacity as Chairmen of the Joint Brunei Darussalam – Malaysia Land Boundary Committee.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Transport was inked by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary, while the Government of Malaysia was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohammad.

Also present to witness the Signing Ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

At noon, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Yang Amat Berhormat the Prime Minister of Malaysia proceeded to Baiturrahmah for a luncheon at Istana Nurul Iman. Also present were members of the Royal Family.

The Annual Leaders’ Consultations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have been held alternately since 1997 where leaders of both countries discuss expanding cooperation in various fields including economy, education, defence, tourism, culture, sports and health.
