Tau Fu Fah is a beloved Chinese dessert made from silken tofu served in a light syrup and often enjoyed warm.
Listed as one of the must-eats in Ipoh, Big Mom Beancurd previously known as Woong Kee Traditional Bean Curd, serves smooth and velvety warm Tau Fu Fah that offers a subtle sweetness enhanced with various syrups including white, brown or ginger sugar priced at RM2.30 a bowl.
Come during the weekends to try it with Chrysanthemum Sugar priced at RM0.70.
Have your Tau Fu Fah with various toppings such as red bean, peanut and sesame, grass jelly, peach resin, Barley and Ginkgo or just Gingko at RM0.50 each.
Pumpkin Rice Balls are also available as toppings priced at RM0.50 for three pieces.
We had our Tau Fu Fah with freshly made cold Soy Milk priced at RM2.80 per glass. It was refreshing, aromatic, perfectly thick and not too sweet – a good pair with our warm Tau Fu Fah.
You can also have Soy Milk with Grass Jelly for just RM3.50 or go for the Black Bean drink at RM3.30 a glass.
The simplicity of tau fu fah belies its comforting allure, as each spoonful captures the essence of traditional flavours, making it a timeless favourite in many Asian cultures.

The Magic of Harry Potter with Every Sip
Step into a world of enchantment at Ipoh Platf9rm Coffee Cafe, where the magic of Harry Potter transforms an ordinary cafe into an immersive fantasy realm.
Located along the historic Concubine Lane, this magical cafe offers a whimsical escape with its themed decor and cosy interiors.
Loosely drawing inspiration from the wizarding world, the cafe stands out with its unique charm serving delightful coffee and cakes to offering costume rentals which you can take at the themed courtyard.
Upon entering, you will be greeted by a cafe bar with plenty of nostalgic signs and memorabilia. On the staircase on the right side, you’ll find the recreation of the Harry Potter luggage trolley with Hedwig doll and books inside.
Every visitor must purchase a drink before relaxing in their air-conditioned space upstairs – which is spacious with exposed brick walls featuring a Harry Potter-themed clock with random paintings including of Princess Diana and the Mona Lisa.
There’s a courtyard which can be accessed through a rainbow staircase from upstairs.
It resembles Diagon Alley decorated with brooms, books, parcels, suitcases and a bookstore, perfect for photo ops especially if you’ve rented a costume for just RM10 – no time limit! Choose your house (mine is Gryffindor!) and you’ll get a scarf, hat, robe and wand.
At such an affordable price, visitors can get a truly immersive experience in their costumes while sipping on a drink of their choice like the Butter Cream Sofa Float inspired by the movie’s Butter Beer drink or the Phoenix Cold Brew.
If you’re looking for more refreshing drinks, try the Love Potion that’s a sweet and sour combination of Yuzu and homemade Strawberry Jam or get the Mermaid Wish – a mix of Carbonated Blue Curacao and Apple Syrup.
