Brunei’s COVID-19 death toll has risen to 14 as another positive case has passed away, the Minister of Health shared on Tuesday.
The deceased was Case 3272, a 92 year old man who suffered from a lung infection after being infected with COVID-19, shared Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham Hj Jaafar during a press conference.
This marks the second consecutive day this week that Brunei has seen a COVID-19 related fatality, the last one being reported the day before, on Monday where the deceased was Case 1521, a 44 year old woman who also died of a lung infection after contracting the virus.
Yesterday also saw 103 new cases being reported along with two new clusters leading the total number of COVID-19 cases in Brunei Darussalam to 3,567.
With the addition of the new clusters namely the 3274 and the 3381 Cluster which involves 17 new cases, the number of active clusters in Brunei currently stands at 54.
Twenty-eight additional new cases today have been linked to nine of the existing active clusters and58 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of infection, the minister continued.
YB Dato Dr Hj Md Isham went on to share that there were three import cases reported yesterday, with all three cases found arriving in the sultanate from Manila on 25 August on board Royal Brunei flight BI 684.
Meanwhile, 187 cases were reported to have recovered today, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 2,058.
The new number of recoveries include 129 positive cases in Category 1 who have been in isolation for 14 days in their respective homes. All of them underwent a repeat swab test on day 12 and were confirmed to have recovered.
This means there are 1,489 active cases in Brunei, eight of which are in critical condition where six cases require the aid of ventilators and two cases require the aid of a heart/lung machine (ECMO).
On the other hand 31 cases under Category 4 have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,876 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 256,037 tests.
