Four positive cases have passed away yesterday with only two cases categorised as deaths due to COVID-19, announced the minister of health.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham in a press briefing said that Case 7766, a 51-year-old man and Case 7229, an 82-year old woman died of a lung infection after contracting the virus.
“Meanwhile, the other two cases; Case 3000, a 40-year-old man and Case 4043, a 70-year-old woman both suffered multiple health problems and were not categorised as death due to COVID-19,” he said.
Meanwhile, the cause of death for Case 6997 who was previously under investigation has been confirmed as death due to the COVID-19 infection.
With this new development, the total number of COVID-19 related fatalities in Brunei stands at 38 cases.
The minister also announced that 188 new active cases were also recorded on Monday, with the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country rising to 7,904.
Futhermore, 176 individuals have recovered from COVID-19. With that, the minister added, the total number of recovered cases in the country has increased to 5,501.
“Six new clusters have been identified; four of these new clusters are private home clusters that involved 32 cases,” added the health minister.
Meanwhile, two clusters namely Fazrul Sdn Bhd Cluster and Kamal Sdn Bhd Cluster are workplace clusters that involved 17 cases.
With this, the total number of active clusters in Brunei stands at 142.
It was also reported that there are 45 additional new cases to 17 existing active clusters and they are those who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
Whereas, 94 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection, said the minister.
Currently, there are 2,343 active cases in the country and among these cases, eight are in critical condition, where all of them require assistance of artificial ventilation and two cases still require the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).
Furthermore, 32 cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 4,687 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted from January 2020 to 374,059.
COVID-19 vaccination status
In regards to the country’s COVID-19 vaccination status, to date the total number of COVID-19 vaccinations is at 304,668 doses.
Currently, 67.2 per cent of the nation’s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, 44 per cent of the population has received a complete COVID-19 vaccine injection with 199,674 individuals completed their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Additional vaccination time for local companies
The Ministry of Health also announced additional vaccination time every Sunday specifically for employees in local companies commencing Sunday, 10 October 2021 at the Indoor Stadium Vaccination Centre.
“Companies wishing to book their vaccination slots at the additional vaccination time can book via the WhatsApp app only, to the lines 8129148, 8139148, 8189148 and 8146148; or via email to vacc.comp@moh.gov.bn,” the minister said.
Bookings for Sunday, 9 October 2021 will be opened starting today, 5 October 2021.
In addition, the booking terms and conditions will be uploaded on the Ministry of Health’s website.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is celebrated every October, the health minister said that it is important to increase the understanding and knowledge of the disease as an initial step to reduce the incidences of breast cancer in the community.
In addition, to also prevent and control breast cancer, as well as to address its related issues; and to increase the support in our community and environment, he added.
“In doing so, Insya Allah it is hoped to spread awareness about the importance of breast self-examination (BSE); seek treatment when needed; and provide support and encouragement to those with breast cancer,” said YB Dato Dr Hj Md Isham.
