The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) is aware that Facebook and Facebook-owned apps including WhatsApp and Instagram experienced a global outage for almost six hours starting around 11.40pm Brunei time on Monday, 4 October 2021.
Internet users in Brunei Darussalam can be rest assured that this outage is unrelated to telecommunications services in the country which did not show any interruptions during the outage period specified, said the authority in a statement.
On Tuesday at 7.02am Brunei time, Facebook has announced on their Twitter that they are officially back online.
Facebook Inc in an update on 4 October outage made it clear that the cause of the outage was a faulty configuration change.
There is no evidence that they have been hacked and no user data was compromised during this downtime.
In a Facebook blog they have said, “Our engineering team have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data caused issues that interrupted this communication.” – Analisa Amu
