Brunei has recorded 202 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, leading the total number of cases in the country to 8,464, announced the minister of health.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Isham Hj Jaafar in a press briefing also revealed that 244 individuals have recovered from the novel virus.
With that, the total number of recovered cases in the country has increased to 6,177 cases.
Moreover, eight new clusters have also been identified where all clusters are from private households that involved 59 cases.
In addition, two of the clusters, namely the Hasmit Shield Roofing Manufacture Sdn Bhd Cluster and Tauhid Jaya Sdn Bhd Cluster involved dormitories that house the company’s employees.
Meanwhile, two old clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days, namely the Champion 7 (kapal-kapal lain) Cluster and 2262 Cluster.
With this, the total number of active clusters in Brunei stands at 153.
It was also reported that there are 63 additional new cases to 13 existing active clusters, and they are those who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
Whereas, 80 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection, said the health minister.
Currently, there are 2,225 active cases in the country and among these cases, eight are in critical condition, where all of them require assistance of artificial ventilation.
Three cases still require the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO).
Furthermore, 33 cases in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
In the past 24 hours on Friday, a total of 5,469 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted from January 2020 to 394,083.
COVID-19 vaccination status
To date, Brunei has administered a total number of 323,898 doses of COVID-19 vaccines with 71.4 per cent of the nation’s population have received at least one dose.
Meanwhile, 46 per cent of the population are fully vaccinated whereby 208,680 individuals have completed their second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
