Progresif Media shines spotlight on student filmmakers at film festival

The Design and Creative Industries (DCI) programme under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of UBD recently returned with the 4th Edition of PRISM UBD Short Film Festival, kicking off with an online premiere on YouTube.

The online screening hosted on the FASS UBD OFFICIAL YouTube Channel premiered ten selected short films in celebration of this year’s festival theme, ‘Prism of Creativity Amid Pandemic’.

In partnership with UBD FASS, Progresif recognised the festival as a great opportunity to support aspiring content creators to promote their talent by providing them with a platform to garner a wider viewership for their work.

Following the online screening, the ten submissions were published onto the Progresif Media platform and will be available for viewing to all from 21 November to 30 November.

During this period, a panel of judges will be assessing the ten submissions and selecting the best works in six categories.

A special People’s Choice Award will be granted to the short film which receives the highest number of votes from the audience.

The public is encouraged to cast their votes by logging on to www.progresifmedia.com or on the Progresif Media mobile app and detailed instructions on how to vote can be found on @progresifmedia on Instagram.

Dr Yong Liu from UBD’s Design and Creative Industries (DCI) Programme shared that with the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak, the 4th Edition of PRISM for the first time had to be turned completely online to meet the required precautions in the Transition Phase under the National Recovery Framework.

“Amid such a challenging time for content creators, in partnership with Progresif Media, we’d like to ensure that PRISM is and will be always the firm backer and creative facilitator for the UBD young talents,” said Dr Yong.

Progresif Media is the home of Bruneian Content, to explore and showcase the abundance of creative creators’ talent from many backgrounds into the platform.

Progresif Head of Media Olivia Ong in a statement said that Brunei’s creative talents can grow much further when they have a platform that supports them.

“Being progressive is about continuous commitment to empower the creative industry and this is reflected in all that we do, to nurture the abilities of young filmmakers, so they are inspired to grow their passion in creativity and turn their talents into reliable business,” she said,

Members of the public are encouraged to watch and vote for their favourite submissions.

All ten short films are available for free from 21 November to 30 November only on www.progresifmedia.com and the Progresif Media mobile app.

The special People’s Choice Award, alongside six other awards, will be announced during a virtual awards ceremony on Saturday, 4 December, which will be hosted on the FASS UBD OFFICIAL YouTube Channel and accessible for public viewing. –Nurhana Diah
