Low number of Categories 4 and 5 patients in third wave

Brunei’s epidemiological comparison for its first, second and third waves of COVID-19 showed that the number of cases in Categories 4 and 5 is lower in the third than the previous, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy in a press briefing.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew said that there were 450 people for every 10,000 cases in both categories during the first wave.

“The numbers show that 60 in every 10,000 cases in the second wave whereas only six cases per 10,000 people were in Categories 4 and 5 during the third wave,” said the minister.

The findings, added YB Dato Dr Hj Mohd Amin, indicate the effectiveness of the National Vaccination Programme which has succeeded in significantly decreasing the number of severely affected COVID-19 cases.

“Scientific findings have shown that two doses of vaccines can provide good protection against the adverse effects of COVID-19, however three doses of vaccines have been found to provide high and additional protection against the negative effects,” the minister shared.

Therefore, members of the public, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases are urged to get their third COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they are eligible to receive it.
