Dart introduces smart shuttle service, plans to expand routes

Dart Logistics recently launched its latest initiative Smart Shuttle service which routes operate on 24 stops around Bandar Seri Begawan.

The latest offering which application is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) aims to serve shuttle users with the most optimised route to their next destination when using the public transportation.

This innovation is a collaboration between Spare Technology Solutions Inc. which is a joint venture between Spare Labs Inc. and Mitsubishi Corporation as well as Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), providing the AI technology for the Dart Smart Shuttle Service.

For this project, Mitsubishi Corporation extends knowledge and experience gained from its on-demand bus projects in Japan, further improving the public transportation issues in Brunei.

In her remarks at the launching event, Acting General Manager of Dart Logistics Siti Nor Syaahidah Haji Shahron shared that there has been a huge expansion in the use of digital technology across the world as well as in Brunei.

She added that with the speed of advancements being made day by day and lives have been transformed by remarkable innovation and technological advances, especially AI is increasingly at the heart of those innovative technologies.

The smart shuttle is available at an affordable fare fee of $2 per trip with reservations to be made on the Dart Shuttle mobile application.

The stops are within the Bandar Seri Begawan area including The Mall, Baiduri Headquarters, Gadong Night Market, One Riverside, 118 Residence and RIPAS Hospital, among others.

“Affordable transportation allows our customers to have a stress-free experience and they don’t need to find parking in crowded areas as they can just park their cars near one of our Dart shuttle stops and grab the shuttle to their favourite shops, cafes or restaurants,” said the acting general manager.

In a statement, Dart co-founder Keeran Janin also shared that the Dart Smart Shuttle does not take a specified route but takes their customers from one of the 24 stops in the efficient route to their destination stop.

“This will not only give our customers the convenience of moving between the various locations faster but also helps alleviate the congestion in these busy areas”, he said.

The company is also planning to expand its routes beyond the capital serving the government and private offices as well as residential areas, depending on local demand.

The launching ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Haji Mohammad Nazri Haji Mohammad Yusof, (MTIC) and Ambassador of Japan to Brunei His Excellency Maeda Toru.
