His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, as personal representative of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah on Tuesday welcomed the arrival of Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia and spouse, Yang Amat Berbahagia Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail who were in Brunei for a two-day state visit.
This marked the first official visit by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the sultanate since his appointment as the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 24 November 2022.
During the visit, the Malaysian premier and spouse as well as the delegation had an audience with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri at Istana Nurul Iman on 25 January 2023.
Upon arrival at Brunei International Airport, the prime minister and spouse were greeted by the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah.
Also present were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi Haji Mohd Yussof as Minister-in-Attendance and spouse; Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof and spouse; Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Ahmaddin Haji Abdul Rahman and spouse; Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Haji Sufian Haji Sabtu and spouse; Deputy Minister of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak Haji Abdul Kadir; High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud Haji Saidin and spouse; and High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Raja Dato’ Reza Raja Zaib Shah and spouse.
The welcoming ceremony began with the national anthems of both countries. The Prime Minister of Malaysia then inspected the guard of honour that was mounted by members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim was then introduced to Cabinet Ministers; Deputy Ministers; the Commissioner of Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force and spouse; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and spouse; Foreign Envoys in Brunei Darussalam; and Permanent Secretaries from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah were then introduced to the Malaysian delegation which includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and spouse.
