From north to south India, Riwaz is set to transport you on an otherworldly culinary journey of tantalising flavours and vibrant spices.
Nestled in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan, within Radisson Hotel, the restaurant offers unique dining experiences and authentic tongue-tingling tastes of Indian cuisine as diverse as the country itself.
Inspired by heirloom recipes from the kitchens of India and state banquets from times past, each dish prepared at Riwaz is carefully crafted with great attention to detail.
Setting Riwaz apart from other Indian restaurants is its culinary authenticity, elegantly sumptuous surroundings and its impeccable hospitality.
According to the restaurant, the word “riwaz” is an Urdu term for tradition, luxury, and style—all of which are reflected in the restaurant’s culinary journey and services.
The moment you step inside the intimate music-box-like space, you will be instantly captivated by the subdued shades of grey that grace the walls and flooring. The calming colour scheme is further complemented by sultry red chairs and soothing pink hues creating an elegant and romantic setting.
The inside space comfortably accommodates up to 40 customers, featuring cosy seating areas that are perfect for corporate luncheons, private gatherings with family and friends or a romantic evening.
Moreover, the location of the restaurant is a peaceful refuge from the hustle-bustle outside with only the sound of classical Indian music playing softly in the background which is perfect for gatherings with family and friends, even for special celebrations.
What’s on the menu?
From Lamb Rogan Josh to Chicken Biryani, Riwaz spotlights a variety of Indian cuisine, bringing the authentic flavours of the North and South with different regional chefs preparing the dishes from their hometowns.
Lovers of spice and all things nice will find themselves feeling right at home with a menu that celebrates flavours and highlights the distinct spices that define India’s multi-faceted cuisine.
Riwaz prides itself in its use of the freshest ingredients alongside authentic herbs and spices to create a modern twist on traditional Indian cuisine.
The restaurant offers a wide range of satisfying Amuse Bouche. All the elements of the appetizers allude to the colourful Indian heritage and flavours, from Three Way Samosas to Spinach & Cheese Pakora.
Another scrumptious appetizer we had a chance to try out, was the restaurant’s signature Kerala Chili Garlic Prawns. The mouth-watering dish is enriched with juicy grilled prawns and flavours of pepper, garlic and other spices.
Some of the menu highlights include the Kashmir dish, Lamb Rogan Josh, succulent pieces of lamb cooked in a medley of aromatic spices and the Murgh Makhani which features an incredible depth of flavours cooked simmered in a rich creamy and buttery tomato gravy.
When talking about Indian cuisine, mentioning Biryani is inevitable. The star dish of Riwaz is undoubtedly their Chicken Biryani, a dish cooked along with flavorful marinated spring chicken and fragrant basmati rice in shades of white, brown and yellow and aromatic spices. The dish is then sealed and served in a handi pot that brings out the distinct flavour of the Biryani.
End your meal on a sweet note, you have a host of options to choose from. We had a chance to try out the Apple jalebi, sweetened apple fritters that are deep-fried to golden perfection and savoured with tutti frutti ice cream.
Besides that, Riwaz also has a wide selection of drinks worth sipping, from their Ginger Masala Tea — strong black tea infused with fragrant notes of cinnamon, cardamom and the restaurant’s own secret blend of spices to their signature Santra Shikanji, a thirst-quenching lemonade drink with an Indian summer twist.
