Eight compounds and warnings were issued to businesses in November for offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142.
Two companies were fined $500 each for selling items such as cooking oil and infant milk formula, exceeding the set maximum price – Jannath Department Store and Fataj Sdn Bhd. Meanwhile, Hidayah Haris Enterprise was fined $700 for the same offence.
One retail store Seri Yasra Enterprise compounded with $500 for failure to display price tags and indicating prices not consistently recorded in their payment system.
The remaining four companies were given warnings for the offences.
These were found during an inspection by Department of Statistics and Economic Planning (DEPS) for businesses based in Kampong Bunut, Kampong Mabohai, Kampong Jerudong and Kampong Kiulap.
Businesses are advised to check and update prices, especially on price-controlled items and to always display price tags.
Complying with the Price Control Act and the regulations under it ensures fair and ethical trading practices for a conducive business environment in the country.
