Bruneian non-government organisation (NGO) Aftercare Support Association (AFSA) recently embarked on a three-day educational visit to the Sabah State Prison Department.
The visit took place from 24 – 26 May 2024 and was led by AFSA President Hajah Juhana Haji Mohd Jaya.
The visit aims to enhance the members’ knowledge and skills to better support former inmates, also known as ‘Rakan Seliaan’.
Furthermore, the visit provides an opportunity to observe and learn about the programs and activities implemented at these facilities, while also fostering stronger bonds and relationships between the officers of the Sabah State Prison Department and AFSA officers.
Aiming to enhance understanding, share information, and advance its activities, the Aftercare Support Association (AFSA) recently conducted a visit to several halfway houses and reintegration centers in Sabah.
The delegation paid a goodwill visit to the Director of Prisons for Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, Hajah Nora binti Musa.
During the visit, AFSA President shared insights on the development and role of the halfway houses and reintegration centers in Sabah.
The AFSA delegation also received briefings on the procedures and governance of the halfway house system in Sabah from the Chief of Parole at the Sabah Prisons Department.
The delegation toured halfway houses in Taman Olivia and Tuaran, Sabah, and closely observed the Tuaran Inmate Reintegration Center.
AFSA Deputy President Haji Mustapa bin Haji Masri stated that the visit provided valuable knowledge and best practices, to improve and advance their association, particularly in organizing activities and programs to enhance the social and emotional well-being of ‘Rakan Seliaan’.
AFSA Deputy President expressed hope that such visits would inspire and motivate AFSA members to better support and assist the former inmates towards a positive future.
